When
the Flame Barely Flickers
I
know without a doubt that I’m writing right now to some someone’s whose flame
is barely flickering. Whoever you are,
you need to be nurtured.
This
is what I know. Maybe it will help you. Maybe you’re being ignored, and by some
people who seem to matter to you. I’ve
been ignored before. I know, it
hurts. But the world won’t end over
it. You will live to see a new day
come.
And
a gentle breeze just blew your flame to a brighter degree.
You
may have needs. They might be financial,
or maybe physical, a serious medical issue, or maybe a relationship strain.
As
you rest your head tonight, call on the God of wisdom and grace to help you
figure out what to do about your need.
There are answers, solutions, resources available. What you may have to do is figure out your
own responsibility to meet your own need.
Maybe YOU are the solution to your own situation. And God will whisper a few ideas in your
ear. Listen for them.
And
another gentle breeze fanned your flame again.
Have
you lost your job? That is a tough one too. Rent, house payments, utility bills still
need to be paid. Mouths need to be fed,
and life goes on. What are your
options? Seek every available
solution. Check out the community
services offered by your community, the State and Federal Government. Resources are available. Yes, there is some red tape. Yes, you’ll have to wait in line, and go to
their offices, but you never know what’s available unless you try.
And
consider other revenue streams – school bus driver morning and afternoons, barista
at a local coffee shop, janitorial work, security guard work, and there are
hundreds of other possibilities. Will
you do what it takes to meet your immediate needs?
Maybe
a small flicker of a breeze just blew your flame again.
This
has been a difficult article to write for me.
I’ve had my own moments in life when my flame barely flickered. I understand where you may be at this moment.
As
I read over this post, I’m really encouraging you to figure out what your part
is that has to be done in all of these human predicaments. It starts with you and me putting one foot in
front of the other and making the effort first.
That is never easy, but it is necessary.
Normally,
in a post like this, I would love to tell you have wonderful you are, how
talented you are, how capable you are.
And though that is true enough, tonight my thoughts are on what you can
do to improve your own lot in life.
Until you exhaust your avenues of help and resources, what can anyone
really do for you? The answers are
probably going to come from your own resiliency.
And
when they come, get ready for a blazing fire instead of a barely flickering
flame.
This is
my
morning
reflection.
