Make Stuff Up

We’re into the second month of 2016.  There is still plenty of time to dream to want, and to aim for the yet undiscovered and the yet-to-be invented.

I hope you’ll make stuff up this year.  I hope you’ll make something that has never before existed.  I hope you stick your toe into a new lake.  I hope you read a book that you’ve never before read and it rocks your world.

I hope you’ll try on some new ways of thinking and doing.  I hope you learn to drive to work by a different route occasionally.  I hope you notice a gorgeous elm that you’ve never seen before, or a new glimpse of the river in a different light.

I hope you write poems you never thought you could write, and sing songs you never thought you could sing.

I hope you manage your company with an outlandish management style, and treat your people with grace and human understanding like never before.

I hope you love your significant other like there is no tomorrow.  I hope you have conversations unlike any other conversations ever.

I hope you hold hands more, laugh more, dream more, and listen to some amazing music that feeds your inner soul like never before.

I hope you meet God on a new playing field, in new light, with new words and fresh ideas that stretch your whole idea of who God is.

I hope you make stuff up and you don’t feel any guilt or shame for trying the new.

Facing a New Year

I've been reviewing old blogs and I’ve been thinking for some time now about this blog at the doorstep of 2012 and I want it to be memorable, yet not resort to the typical thoughts I've already been receiving in my inbox.

So, here is what is on my mind.

I will endeavor to travel these paths in 2012.

-I will honor God in my living, in my thinking, in my acting.

-I will find ways to add value to my wife.

-I will continue reading good and wholesome stuff – books, magazines, internet content

-I will model integrity in thought, word and deed.

-I will write to the best of my abilities.

-I will treat my fellow man with respect, cordiality and kindness.

-I will do a better job of honoring my body and bring balance and health to a higher level.

Do you notice that all of these center on making good choices?

Choices!

That’s it.  One word that now becomes the focus for my life this year.

I Choose – every day, every moment, every circumstance.

Will you join me in pursuit of good choices this year?

A New Year - A Blank Page

2010 is here! What is it going to be like for you?

I like the beginning of any new year. We get a fresh page on which to write anything we want. We can create, dream, plan and go anywhere we want to go with a clean sheet.

As usual, I first reflect back on the year just closed. I keep meticulous records of our expenses and can tell you to the penny how much we spent on every line item of recurring expenses, as well as for groceries, meals eating out, clothes, dry cleaning, gas for our automobiles and other expenses. I also review my past journals and remember and reflect on the stuff of life that we have experienced in the past. Sometimes I laugh out loud at the situations in which I found myself, but mostly I’m trying to learn from the past and make my future better and more productive.

Questions I usually ask are:
How can I esteem my wife more?
How can I improve my relationships in my family?
How can I improve my relationship with God?
How can I improve my serve with my fellow human beings?
Where can I cut corners in spending?
What new ventures will I pursue?
What goals have I been pursuing that are worthwhile and should still be pursued?
What goals and dreams should I stop pursuing or have become obsolete?
How can I improve my life, my relationships, and my future?

You and I can certainly add to this list of starter questions.

To me, a new year is one big do-over. Remember doing that as a child? Maybe you missed a fly ball hit right into your glove, or you fell down just as you neared the finish line and you cried out “do-over!”

So, let’s do over in 2010. Some quality thinking time alone is a great way to begin this process. Let your imagination run wild, with nothing being off limits. What are your wants, wishes, and wanna-be dreams? What did you nearly accomplish in 2009 that you want to do better at in 2010?

I’m making my list and checking it twice. Join me. It’s a journey that will take you places you might not otherwise see and experience.
