The World Is Noisy

The World Is Noisy

The world is noisy.  And we search for peace and quiet.  Hard to find?  Perhaps.  Sometimes we make our own space, time and place for peace and calm.

It’s important, you know.  There is a lot of stuff in this world that seeks to distract us.  That is why I’ve seriously curbed my TV watching over the past few years.  With the availability of streaming, if we’re going to watch, we pick what, when and for how long.  TV is not the dictator.  I dictate.

My important places for moments of peace and quiet are …

~Sitting along Sunset Avenue here in Edmonds.  I get to watch seagulls glide on the wings of the wind, and watch the water traffic, walkers, and all else in my view.  It is quiet an oasis.

~Anytime and anyplace when the crashing of the waves can be found.  What is it about that particular sound that appeals to so many?

~Mountain views and lake views add a sense of peace and calm anytime I can partake.

~I’ve had a few quiet moments in libraries.  They don’t allow noise and distractions in those places.  I love that kind of stillness.

~My home office provides an amazingly peaceful space.  I’m here now, at 4:44AM, and all is well in my world.

Stop the chatter.
Halt the social media feed.
Turn off the radio, TV, and other electronic devices, and go to the quiet place.

What a great gift to give to yourself.

morning reflection.

Broken Eggs Teach

Broken Eggs Teach

The other morning, I set out to fry up a couple of eggs.  Oops.  I broke one of the yokes.  I could have tossed both eggs out, however, I made scrambled eggs instead.

There are always choices, plan B, and a different route to take when the original plan is stopped dead in its tracks.  Get the picture?

I had choices with those eggs.  Scrambled, even an omelet.

I once had a great job and it finally played out.  They moved to Nashville and I couldn’t make that move at that particular time.  Another job within the same company opened up and it took me to Waco.  I chose the scrambled eggs of Waco over the ham and biscuits of Nashville, and it is amazing at the twists and turns and life experiences my life has seen.

Every experience – EVERY one holds our future.  Our job is to look for the serendipitous moments along the way.

morning reflection.

Are We Ready for Tomorrow?

Are We Ready for Tomorrow?

~In 1975, I didn’t know I’d need a smart phone.
~I knew nothing of this Mac Air laptop I’m using.
~In my great-grand-Father’s Day, he could not fathom how and why a person would need a Model T Ford.  Nobody was asking for them.  Nobody knew how to work on them, or even where to buy gasoline to power them.

Yet, today, I use my smart phone and Mac Air every day.
I hop into my automobile every day.

These men, and ladies too, didn’t wait around for people to ask for the gadget, phone, auto, computer, or whatever before they decided to build the first one.  They took a leap of faith.  They saw the future first in their own eyes, and then developed, created and built the first one, and then improved it until we are incapable of surviving without these indispensable objects of affection and usefulness.

So, the question is this … what will people need tomorrow?  And do some of us have the guts and chutzpah to go and make it?

Carolyn and I often ponder what kind of world our youngest grandkids will experience.  What will their college experience look like compared to today?  What will their world political system be like?

Somebody has to design and build for tomorrow.  Could it be you?

Tomorrow is coming.  Better get ready … NOW!

morning reflection.
