What My Mind Sees

What My Mind Sees

I’m going to talk about belief, self-confidence and desire to make it so.  I hope you stay tuned.

The picture to the right speaks volumes to
me.  I’ve seen my own grandkids try something as epic as this.  A large step, a desire, and a way.

What do you see in your mind?  What do you believe?

This is not pop psychology.  This is not new age.  This is not hocus-pocus.

It IS a fact and a critical principle of life.

I used this quote recently in another post, yet it still speaks.

Only Those Who Can
See the Invisible
Can Accomplish the Impossible

Once again, it is a ‘mind’ thing.

I believe in this principle.  I believe in the power of the mind to help create dreams that come true or thoughts that destroy and weaken.

Positive thoughts aren’t the only way to accomplishment.  Never underestimate the value of hard work, of learning, of mastering skills; however, add some positive thinking, and you increase your odds.

A final word – you are the author of your life.
I never get far from this simple idea.

If you want your story
to be magnificent,
begin by realizing you are the author
and every day is a new page.

I wonder what all we can imagine?

This is my morning reflection.

Learning to Dance in the Rain

Learning to Dance in the Rain

It started raining in October 2017 and rained until mid-to-late February 2018. And I learned to dance in the rain.

You see, I was admitted to the hospital for what turned out to be a great need for heart bypass surgery. That was a horrible rain. It pounded, and puddled, stormed and blew. But I danced anyway.

My cardio doctor told me I was too weak for
immediate surgery and we would have to put it off until January. I started going to the gym and got stronger and better. We moved the surgery up to Dec. 18. I danced some more.

Surgery before Christmas is not the ideal timing, but we had a great Christmas and I danced some more. On Christmas Day, my first day out after surgery, we went to Cari’s house where all the family was gathered, and I danced. It was a lovely dance.

We settled into a good life-rhythm after Christmas and we danced some more. Carolyn got really good at fixing meals that were on my ‘good’ list and I ate like a King, and we danced.

My sister, Lynn, came for a visit in January and helped out for a week. We had a grand visit and we danced some more.

I dealt with the dizziness, the off-balance issues, the ‘adjusting the meds’ regime and constant feelings of being ‘cold’, and we danced right along with all of that.

I went to my after-surgery appointment and we danced all the way home, for he was very pleased with me.

And just last week, we had a jubilee dance. My primary care physician had me come in for an A1C blood draw. If you are diabetic, you know all about that. We’ve been watching those numbers for a while now and needed to get them below the 7% mark.

He emailed me a couple of hours later. My number was 5.4%. You should have seen how we danced.

Nobody wants to go through this kind of surgery.

NO BODY!
However … if you do. I hope you find those moments when you can’t help but dance. Celebrate those small steps, the tiny improvements, the bits and pieces when life is good in spite of the setback, and dance … dance … dance.
This is my morning reflection.

What Can You Do?

What CAN You Do?

In my early childhood, I was told a lot of ‘no’s’.  And some of it carried over into my young adulthood.

“Leave that thing along.  You don’t know ‘nothing ‘bout machinery” was once said to me as I sat on the floor watching a reel-to-reel tape recorder.  I had such a fascination for those machines.

Once I was told I couldn’t buy a circular saw because “you’ll cut your fingers off.”

I hate being told “no”, “don’t,” “you shouldn’t”, “you can’t”, and a thousand other limiting responses.

Later in life, I learned to operate several different kinds of tape recorders, including DAT machines and I now produce podcasts on iMovie.  My curiosity was in preparation for skills I could later put into full use in life.

I indeed bought a circular saw twenty years ago, and I still have all my fingers and toes, and a few small wood-projects that I’ve built.

     What makes you
      curious?
          What intrigues you?
               What captures your attention?

Perhaps that very apparatus or idea, thought or suggestion holds the seed for a future skill, a future, career.

Something I learned a few years ago “… Just because ‘they’ say so doesn’t make it so.”

If the idea and fascination burns within you, there is a good indication that whatever the fascination is, it could be a good fit for you.

I have been taken with writing for thirty years or more.  I didn’t actively embrace this love until 2009.  I dabbled in it with some careers I had and wrote ad copy, video scripts and brochure copy.  In October 2009, I started my first blog and today I have five blog sights that I own and write ten or more blogs every week, and in these 8 ½ years I’ve published over 2000 posts.

Oh, at first, I didn’t receive much praise for my writing, and frankly, some of it was rough around the edges, to say the least.  And I persisted.

My point is this … discover whatever it is that whets your appetite and go make it so.  You don’t need a diploma, a badge, an invitation from the Governor or a permission slip from anyone except yourself.

Set yourself free!

Create!

This is my morning reflection.
