Where Is Peace

Where Is Peace

For many, peace is found ocean-side, with the waves crashing, the breeze gently blowing and a 70-degree day with sunshine.

For others, it is family and those we love nearby, laughing, perhaps grilling burgers or hotdogs, and homemade ice cream.

Consider this – a severe thunderstorm is raging, the winds are howling, the rain is pelting the side of the mountain.  If you were a leaf on that mountain, you’d be tossed to the four winds.

And if you look closer, you would see a crevice on the side of the mountain, and in the crevice, you find a mother bird sitting bravely on her nest, guarding her small brood of three freshly hatched babies.

As far as the hatchlings are concerned, they are at the center of peace and calm, for Mom is on duty.

How many times has your Mom-figure, or Dad-figure been on duty to keep you safe and at peace in the middle of a storm?

Peace is found when the storms rage, the unknown calls, or troubles knock on the door, and someone significant – a parent, a good friend, a minister, a God-presence, comes along and settles your heart and mind in the moment of terror.

That is about the best ‘peace’ I can think of.

This is my
morning reflection.

How Can I Be Used

How Can I Be Used?

This is a probing question, and a troublingly great one.  How Can I Be Used?

And we are applying this to our everyday world.  There is a lot of focus today on productivity.  Do you meet your productivity score?  Do you do what is expected and on time and under budget?

There you sit.  Here I sit, and I’m writing about how to be used.  It is not with one finger pointed to you, my reader, for if it was, three others would be pointed back at me.

In the nine different careers I’ve had, I’ve managed to interpret my role in each one with a defining purpose.  The words for each were different, but they had a resonating theme.  I live to help people.  I live to touch mankind.  I do this mainly through writing my blogs and books, and giving talks.

I got this idea … this burning desire, one Sunday afternoon while watching the movie Patch Adams.  Patch was called before the medical school administrator and was on the verge of being kicked out of school.  In a moment of passion and inspiration he said, “Sir, I just want to help people.”

Something snapped inside of me at that moment and I literally cried out, “That is me.  That is what I want to do too”

Now, what about you?  What do you see as a way and means for you to be used?  I’m not speaking of a one-time shot, activity, or event.  I’m talking of a day-in-and-day-out philosophy for life.

There are many avenues to travel in our search for living a meaningful life.  But what is right for you?

I will avoid the temptation now to list a string of possibilities for you to consider for I could never mention them all, and you would reject 99% of items on the list.

Just a few questions perhaps.
~Do you have a passion, a magnificent obsession?
~If money was no object, what would you do for a profession?
~When I do ______, I feel I am really being used. (Fill in the blank.)

When we answer these questions, then we are, indeed, on a good path toward living a life of purpose and usefulness.

This is my morning reflection.

I Still Believe in Good

I Still Believe in Good

 I still believe in good.

I believe there are good people in this world, men, women, boy and girls who would rather take a stand than take a stash of cash.

I believe there are honest people who can show us their good and honest side in spite of the current trends to polish up a bad image just to garner votes or sell a product.

I believe in the sincerity of most individuals to do the right thing at the right time.

I believe there are men and women out there who can wisely lead our nation and our world through these turbulent and troubling times.  They are called statesmen and stateswomen.  They care about our future and they make decisions based on the good of mankind.

I believe there are some teachers in our world who can still teach a student to think on their own two feet, and to think their own thoughts – not regurgitate party line and old dogmas.

I believe there are some fine and honorable ministers – men and women – who hold to a high and ethical standard, who present the scriptural truths as clearly as they can, and that they will guide all of us in our own spiritual pilgrimage.

I believe that out there somewhere, is a news source that can still dispense truth in an unvarnished way so that we can make important decisions and have great conversations on truth, justice, right and wrong, and living an honorable life.

I believe there are brave men and women in this world who still stand up against bullies.  They fight for the weak, the infirmed, the intimidated, and the voiceless.

I believe there are parents out there who still desire to instill common core character traits into the lives of their children – traits like honesty, responsibility, please and thank you, respect for others, tolerance, and humility, and respect for our past, our present, and our futures.

If you agree with this post, then you are one of the golden tribe in whom I still believe.

It matters not where you call home,
or how far and wide you may roam.
We need you now,
with your know-how
to make a way
for our world today!

What are you willing to do?

This is my morning reflection.
