Our Secret Power

Our Secret Power

I love the whole idea of the above caption.  The last line captures a room full of wisdom.  “We have the power to imagine better.”

Spend some time on that one.  Actually, spend some time in your own imagination.  What all can you imagine?

Down through history, mankind has continually used his/her imagination and look at our world.  Consider, technology, medicine, space exploration, education, psychology, and on and on.

Without imagination, what are we?  Really?  What are we?

A man I know named Stan imagined a life better than the poor upbringings he experienced.  He set his sights.  He got a degree, then law school, then a judge-ship.  He married a beauty named Barb, had two kids, and life has been pretty sweet for them.  Simply because he imagined.

Where would we be without the imagination of Gates, Jobs, Einstein, Edison, the Wright brothers, Thomas Jefferson, JK Rowling, Robert Ludlum, Steinbeck and a thousand other imaginative individuals?

What could your imagination bring us?

This is my
morning reflection.

Want Perfect or Happy?

-->
Want Perfect or Happy?

Many of us, perhaps, confuse perfect with happy.  I like
perfect.  I want to be happy.

And what is perfect?  The answers are as varied as the individual responding.  Some of the answers include:

~LARGE home
~All "A's" in school
~Six-figure income
~Perfect health
~Fashion-model looks
~Always looking good

Well, you know the drill.

And do you think the people who have all that stuff are happy?  Life tells us otherwise.

Rather, it seems to me that happiness happens regardless of the “stuff” we have in our garage or closet.  It’s an inside job.

I’ve never been a wealthy man.  However, I’ve had an abundance of happiness in life.

And why?

It’s an attitude kind of thing.  It’s a matter of making the best in any situation.  I’ve lived in great houses, and in spaces that lacked.  And I was happy.

I’ve had jobs I hated and jobs I’ve loved.  And I was happy.

I’ve lived in towns I tolerated and towns I adored.  And I was happy.

It seems to me that happiness is a state of mind.

We DECIDE to be happy.  We DECIDE to make the best of any situation in which we find ourselves.

WE decide.

Did you get that?

This is my
morning reflection.

The Doors We Have to Enter

-->
The Doors We Have to Enter

We enter some doors because they are necessary and become the path we need to take to get to other places.  Easy, right?

Back in November of 2017, I had to have an angiogram to give my medical team some vital information for my heart.

In December, 2017, I had to have my whole upper body shaved in preparation for open-heart surgery.  Those were not pleasant doors to enter.  They WERE necessary for my future.

I imagine you have faced some hard doors and have had to march on through them as well.  We do those hard things because we see what the end result could be.  Yet surely as I sit writing these words, had I not chosen to go through those doors, I don’t know if I would be here at this moment in time.

We love the door of love, a new home, new auto, new job, new baby.  We embrace those doors.

Other doors, harder to manage, difficult to speak of, we try our best to avoid.  I get that.

If you are facing one of those dreaded doors of life, I encourage you on a few fronts.

~Surround yourself with those who love you most and hold your best interest at heart.
~If it is a medical issue, find a team of professionals you trust and honor.
~If you need wise counsel, seek out that help.

~And if you pray, reach out to the God of your understanding.

This is my
morning reflection.
