You Get to Bat Again

You Get to Bat Again

Carolyn and I attended a Little League double-header baseball game yesterday of a grandnephew.  They won both games, by the way.

We saw some good, yea great hits, and we saw some strikeouts.

Even for the strikeout kids, they got to bat again.  And more than likely, the next time up to bat, they got a hit.

We too, you and me.

I’ve struck out a time or two in life.  And yet I’m still here, batting again.  My mistakes don’t define me.  They don’t stick on me like a bee-on-honey.

And neither do your mistakes.

Just dropping in to let you now this.

It’s not rocket science.  It’s not astrophysics.

It’s a life of tries, attempts, mistakes, strike-outs.  And it’s a life of successes, victories, making it on base, getting the job, marrying the girl or boy.

And come the later years … we look back and say to others “That’s okay.  Today you didn’t make it, but tomorrow is coming.  You get to bat again tomorrow.”

This is my
morning reflection.

Fear Overcome

Fear Overcome

I have a few friends who run marathons.  My wife, Carolyn, has entered and completed her share of them as well.

Fear attends marathons.  Did you know that?  It rides on the shoulders of the runners and whispers all during the race.  “Aren’t you tired yet?  Shouldn’t you stop and take a break?  Do you really think your heart is up to this?”

And they keep running.  Sure, they get tired.  Yes, they need a break.  But the goal is in sight.  The end result is firmly planted in their minds, and on they run.

In the beginning days, I was fearful every time it came time to press “Publish” for my blogs.  I thought, “What am I doing?  What am I saying?  Will someone laugh?  Will anyone read it?

For every job that I have sought out, there has been fear.  Before every musical that I’ve conducted, fear has lurched nearby.

Seth Godin says it this way.  “Everyone who takes their turn gets scared.”

Well, anymore, I’m taking my turn.  There are some things I want to say that I haven’t said yet.

And I have other dreams.  I’m gonna take my turn.

Got fear?

Oh yeah.  It’s along for the ride.  But I am learning to ignore it now days.

This is my
morning reflection.

I Still Believe in Love

I Still Believe in Love

I still believe in love, for how it gives me hope.  Hope that I am not hopeless. Hope that there are some redeeming traits about me that CB finds attractive.

Love fills me.  When I come home, the greeting is a hug and a kiss, and a ‘glad to see you’.

And I ask about her day, and her interests.  We make plans.  We talk.  We laugh.

After all, that’s what lovers do, isn’t it?  We do life while in love.

I believe in love for the trust I hold sacred.  She trusts me.  I trust her.  She knows my secrets and loves me anyway.

I believe in love because I love the feeling of being in love.  I love knowing someone is here, waiting for my call, waiting for me to walk in.  I love getting a text at mid-day just to say, ‘I miss you’.

I believe in love for all the right reasons.

Mostly because … I am very aware that I am deeply loved, and there is no greater knowing in this world.

This is my
morning reflection.
